Arcus Bench evolved directly from the language of Portico Mantel, reimagining its architectural form at the scale of seating. A sculptural seating form built from broad 2×12 planks, structural tension creates strength while the charring process softens its visual weight, elevating an ordinary construction material into something elemental. The staggered lengths create a subtle undulation across the seat while forming a continuous arch along the underside, balancing structural clarity with a softer, more inviting profile.
Originally conceived as a single, longer bench, the design ultimately evolved into two independent pieces. Together they read as a unified composition, yet each can be moved and arranged individually, offering flexibility without compromising the integrity of the original form. Arcus is sold as a complementary pair, encouraging a variety of spatial relationships within a room.
Material: untreated kiln dried 2×4 pine, threaded steel rods, washers and bolts.
Finish: Hand-charred and sealed with a durable matte, water-based protective finish.
