Portico Mantel

$2,500.00 usd

Portico Mantel is a freestanding architectural console inspired by the quiet monumentality of basalt column formations, from the volcanic landscapes of the United Kingdom to the vertical towers of Devil's Tower in Wyoming. Composed from a simple modular system of 2×2 architectural furring strips, the piece transforms an ordinary construction material into a rhythmic composition of light, shadow, and mass.

Its structure was developed through an iterative process of experimentation, much like engineering a bridge. The spacing, lengths, and internal steel framework were refined until the composition achieved a careful balance appearing monolith while remaining visually light and structurally efficient.

Material: untreated kiln dried 2×2 pine, threaded steel rods, washers, bolts and end caps.

Finish: Hand-charred and sealed with a durable matte, water-based protective finish.

LxHxW: 46in x 32in x 14in
