Sardine began with a collection of remnants salvaged from a commercial project where floor joists were being replaced. Because the original floor followed angled walls, each offcut was a different length. Rather than standardizing the material, the design developed around this variation.

Originally conceived as a bookshelf, Sardine grew from a desire to rethink the familiar box. The structure became a central spine with a series of wooden ribs extending outward, creating a tall, lightweight framework of shelves and negative space.

The anatomy of a fish became an unexpected reference during the process—the spine, the ribs, and the space between them. Built using the same dimensional lumber and tension-based construction found throughout the collection, Sardine turns a collection of irregular scraps into a single, continuous structure.

Material: untreated kiln dried 2×4 pine, threaded steel rods, washers and bolts. Includes French cleat-style wall bracket and hardware for standard installation.

Finish: Hand-charred and sealed with a durable matte, water-based protective finish.
