Sardine began with a collection of remnants salvaged from a commercial project where floor joists were being replaced. Because the original floor followed angled walls, each offcut was a different length. Rather than standardizing the material, the design developed around this variation.

Originally conceived as a bookshelf, Sardine grew from a desire to rethink the familiar box. The structure became a central spine with a series of wooden ribs extending outward, creating a tall, lightweight framework of shelves and negative space.

The anatomy of a fish became an unexpected reference during the process—the spine, the ribs, and the space between them. Built using the same dimensional lumber and tension-based construction found throughout the collection, Sardine turns a collection of irregular scraps into a single, continuous structure.

Material: untreated kiln dried 2×4 pine, threaded steel rods, washers and bolts. Includes French cleat-style wall bracket and hardware for standard installation.

Finish: Hand-charred and sealed with a durable matte, water-based protective finish.

  • To place an order, please reach out directly by email at madmanpgh@gmail.com, or visit our Contact page and submit the inquiry form.

    Please allow some time for us to respond and set up your order. We’ll confirm the details of your order and shipping information with you before sending a secure payment link.

    Once payment has been received, we’ll begin preparing your order.

  • Once payment is received, your order will be placed in the fabrication queue. Fabrication can take up to 4 weeks before your piece is ready to ship.

    Once your piece is complete, it will be prepared for freight and shipped within approximately one week. Transit times vary depending on your location. For most U.S. orders, you can expect approximately two weeks from the time your order is picked up by the freight carrier to delivery at your door.

    Please allow up to 7 weeks total from payment to delivery for most U.S. orders. We’ll provide shipping details and tracking information once your order is on its way.

  • Our furniture is shipped via freight carrier. Each piece is securely wrapped and loaded onto a pallet to protect it during transit.

    Direct-to-home delivery is available, but freight delivery is curbside or to the carrier's standard delivery location. The carrier will not bring the furniture inside or place it in its final location. Someone must be available to receive and sign for the delivery.

    For customers in Pittsburgh, local pickup from the studio or local delivery can be arranged.

    Shipping costs are determined before your order is processed. We’ll work with you to determine the best shipping option for your location and needs, particularly for orders outside the United States.

  • We accept returns within 14 days of delivery. Items must be returned in their original condition and packaging.

    Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. If your product arrives damaged or defective, we will provide return shipping at no cost to you. Please contact us within 14 days of delivery with photos of the damage so we can arrange a replacement, repair, or refund.

  • Yes and no.

    The pieces in Collection 01 are produced as designed and described, with each piece made to order and available in limited production as stated on each product page. We do not offer modifications or customizations to Collection 01.

    That said, we are open to custom furniture and commissioned work on a right-fit basis. If you have an idea, project, or specific need in mind, reach out through our Contact page. We’re always interested in exploring the right project with the right client.
